What Questions about God have brought you here?

Alex & Mae Moore, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship

In early October, groups of students on campuses around the northwest found themselves faced with this question. They were at the first meeting of The God Experiment, a month-long opportunity to explore spiritual life. After reflecting in silence for a few moments, each student rose and wrote their question on a large piece of paper for others to see.

In The God Experiment, InterVarsity chapters invited students to put their questions at the forefront of their spiritual journey, and as a result, they moved from curiosity about God to seeking him for answers to their deepest questions. And to many students’ surprise, God actually began to show up!

At the University of Idaho, a student who was already a Christian realized that her deepest question was “God, will you abandon me like my parents did?” She nervously wrote it on the wall, and continued holding it before God all week. The day before the next God Experiment meeting, she heard God speak to her in prayer using Hebrews 13:5: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

At Portland State University, a student came to the God Experiment who had been exploring Islam for the past four years. She hit a roadblock in her spiritual journey when her mentor told her it was not respectful to ask questions but to accept the Koran in faith. After a few weeks in the question-friendly environment of the God Experiment, she attended an InterVarsity conference and there decided to become a follower of Jesus.

God is clearly on the move on our region’s campuses – over 40 students have already become Christians through northwest InterVarsity chapters this year – the largest harvest we’ve seen in decades. Praise God!
