Monumental Events from 1993:

  • Dan and Anne Baumgartner begin
    pastoral studies at Princeton.
  • Kathy Cranston begins missionary service in Costa Rica.

Ok, maybe these events weren’t monmental in your lives! But this last week I was pondering the parallel that after so many years away, we all ended up back at Bethany!

After serving 10 years with Latin America Mission, I’ve been back in Seattle since 2003, serving now with Mission to Unreached Peoples (MUP).

MUP has missionaries serving all over Asia and Eastern Europe. And as a candidate manager, I get to share in the journey with candidates as they prepare to serve in places like Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, even Myanmar!

There are times I wonder who appreciates this behind-the-scenes work. But last Fall, we asked some of our missionaries what they appreciated about MUP. It was encouraging to hear how our work has enabled them to follow the Lord’s calling.

Here are my favorites:

“Some agencies try to make everyone fit into a box. But, MUP designed a box just for me, that fits my specific gifting and calling.” - a couple working with prostitutes in China

“Every one (at the office) has the gift of hospitality and kindness….they are so encouraging. Prayer is most important to me and this organization prays !” - a nurse working in Cambodia among AIDS patients

“The guidance and care during the candidate phases were superb! Since being on the field more than two years, we have seen the tremendous benefits of it!” - a young couple serving in Southern Asia

As much as these quotes encourage me, even more encouraging are Bethany’s faithful support and prayers for more than 15 years!! If you’d like to be part of my prayer support team or
